This is one of those long and overly emotional posts I’m sometimes prone to spout.. Feel free to just look at the lovely Lord family instead 🙂
Ann is a wonderful colleague of mine in the wedding world where she is a fantastic celebrant, you can find her work here – Ann Lord – Civil Celebrant. She contacted me in the holidays for a group family portrait of her husband & his brother and their respective families for their mum’s 70th birthday.
We also decided to use the opportunity to take some family photos and updated photos of the children, and meet at my favourite secret bush location not far from my house (I’ve not posted any of the big group photos as one of the cousins in the group very maturely decided he would prefer not to have his photos online, probably something one of my children will wish they’d been asked!)..
What I wanted to show, was just how lucky some families are. How lucky they are to live close to each other, lucky to be able to have kids close in age, lucky to have kids to ADORE each other, lucky to have love to pours out of a photo.. And I am the lucky lucky one who gets to capture this, to be let into silly jokes, and family stories and cousin cuddles and sibling piggybacks and all the fun bits that comes with the best of family life..
One of my favourite bits of the whole day, was over-hearing one of the group of cousins asking “Can we stay here to play, and Mel take some more photos of us?”.. That’s when I know this is one of the best “jobs”, and photos shows a cheeky grin, a relaxed smile and a whole lot of love.. So, get family photos, take family photos, be in family photos, don’t worry about how you look, or if the kids have dirty feet, just let all the good bits shine.. You can see them in a photo..
I couldn’t sum it up better myself, so I’ve left it to Ralph Waldo Emerson, being super apt for reasons the Lords will know full well 🙂 .. Much love and thanks and family feels xx Mel
